Cloverleaf Pinfish Trap

This cloverleaf pinfish trap works in both saltwater and freshwater. Pinfish are the main target, but it also catches croaker, cocahoe minnows, bream, bluegill, and bullhead.

It's built from 1/2 in. x 1 in. welded wire — animal-cage-quality wire with a bonded PVC coating that's glued on rather than just dipped, so it holds up to saltwater far longer than typical traps. All hardware is either aluminum or stainless steel and won't rust.

This trap lets you catch your own bait — pinfish, bream, perch, eel, or whatever species you'd like — instead of paying for it every trip. What's Included

The trap comes ready to fish. There are two doors: one at the center for loading bait into the holding tube, and one at the bottom for dumping your catch. It's made of 1 in. x 1/2 in. PVC-coated welded wire that resists rust.

To use it: load the trap with bread, dog food, or cut bait, toss it into shallow water, tie it off, and check back in a few hours. That's it.

Q - How many pinfish will this trap hold?
A - A full trap can hold 75+ pinfish or other bait fish, depending on soak time and location.


Q - How deep does the water need to be?
A - Shallow water works best — most anglers set this trap in 1 to 5 feet of water.


Q - How long should I leave the trap out?
A - As a general rule, expect shorter soak times in warm water (an hour or two) and longer soak times in cold water or during winter months (up to several hours). Checking it after a couple of hours and adjusting based on what you're catching is the best approach. PRO-TIP here... always empty the trap when you check it to prevent losing bait.


Q - Does this trap work the same in saltwater and freshwater?
A - Yes. The bonded PVC coating and aluminum/stainless hardware are built to hold up in saltwater, and the same trap works just as well in freshwater for bream, perch, and other baitfish.


Q - What bait should I use?
A - Bread, dog food, or cut bait all work well. Load it into the center bait tube, close the door, and you're ready to set the trap.


Q - Will the wire rust over time?
A - It shouldn't — the PVC coating is bonded (glued) to the wire rather than just dipped, and all hardware is aluminum or stainless steel, so the trap resists rust even with regular saltwater use.
